In 2024, the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) marked the end of an era by retiring its fleet of F-16 Fighting Falcons after nearly five decades of service. To commemorate this significant milestone, aviation artist Peter van Stigt was commissioned to create a special livery for the F-16AM J-197, operated by 312 “Bonzo” Squadron—the last RNLAF unit to fly the F-16.
Van Stigt’s design, known as the “Farewell Falcon,” pays tribute to the aircraft’s storied history within the RNLAF. The livery features a striking falcon motif, symbolizing the agility and strength of the F-16, along with elements that reflect the heritage of 312 Squadron. This artistic endeavor not only honors the aircraft but also the pilots, maintenance crews, and support staff who have been part of its legacy.
